The Copper Stallion – A British Pub
The pub is a uniquely British institution; it’s not just a place to eat and drink, it’s a community centre. For centuries, Brits have been gathering to talk, laugh, weep, gossip and flirt in pubs around the country. On a cold day, it’s a place to warm up in front of a roaring fire and sip on a smooth whisky or a glass of rich red wine. When it’s hot, there’s no better place to slake your thirst with a cold beer or a gin and tonic.
Most pubs have a resident dog or two, and patrons are usually welcome to bring their own. Even the local constabulary will join in; if the Bobby keeps his hat on, he’s on duty, but as soon as he takes it off, he’s ready for a pint.
Many people prefer to relax in the beer garden, swapping stories and rekindling lost memories, while the kids play nearby. In fact, there’s something for every age, whether it’s the “craic” (Irish Gaelic for fun and good times) or just reading the newspaper.
Over the last twenty years or so, pubs have become more like chain restaurants, leading to a sharp decline in popularity. However, there is a growing sense around the country that a significant portion of British culture has been eroded, and there has been a gradual resurgence of family-owned pubs. We at The Copper Stallion are trying to recreate the kind of atmosphere where everybody can be comfortable and eat and drink in the company of friends.
Now a word about our food: Our meals are always home-cooked and as wholesome as possible. We try hard to ensure that our ingredients are fresh and local whenever in season. As small business owners, we support other local and small businesses. We get all of our USDA certified meat from Stearns Meats in Charlton; apples and peaches from Breezelands Orchards in Warren; fresh baked bread from Francesco’s in Charlton; berries and fruit from Cook’s Farm Orchard in Brimfield; tomatoes and herbs from Lamoureux Greenhouses in Brookfield; and most other vegetables from Pea Pod (organic) Farm in Warren. We’re proud to support local growers, and we hope that you enjoy the fruits of their labours. Our list of local farmers continues to grow as our tastes continue to mature
All of our meals are fresh –prepared with quality in mind, and cooked to order. So while some meals may take longer to cook, rest assured that we are preparing your food the best way we can, so sit back, relax and enjoy the atmosphere of a British pub, right here in Sturbridge. At the Copper Stallion, you’ll be a stranger but once!
